Pre-Pharmacy
Kent State University offers three different way to prepare for further training in a number of different pharmacy schools. One option is for students to prepare for possible admission to the North East Ohio Universities College of Pharmacy (NEOUCOP). Students begin their training at Kent State and apply for admission to NEOUCOP in their junior year. Students must follow the Department of Chemistry’s Biological Chemistry Concentration curriculum. In order to take the appropriate coursework, students must consult regularly with their faculty pre-pharmacy advisor.
A second option is to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biological Chemistry option. Some pharmacy schools require a Bachelor of Science degree in order to gain admission. This option offers the best preparation.
The third option is to follow the College of Arts and Sciences Pre-Pharmacy Advising Program. The admission requirements for pharmacy schools vary greatly. Students must work closely with their faculty pre-pharmacy advisor to ensure they meet the admissions requirements for the pharmacy school of their choice.
